Alcohol and Drug Abuse

As part of my services for treating substance and alcohol abuse, I do interventions with the family. We have been successful in getting their loved ones to treatment and getting the help they need.

New innovations in imaging technology have helped alcohol researchers study how alcohol and drugs damage internal organs, such as the brain and the liver.

Chronic alcohol abuse kills brain cells in the front of the brain, which affect planning, social interactions and inhibitions.
One concept that many people find difficult to accept is that alcoholism and alcohol problems are a disease. Research has shown that alcohol interacts with the body’s systems in predictable ways to lead to a physiological addiction . This is also based on a tolerance level and preoccupation which the drug of choice. Nearly 14 millions Americans meet the criteria for a medical and diagnostic disorder.
Alcoholism is a disease — a chronic, progressive, fatal disease if not treated.
According to the 2006 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, approximately 35.3 million Americans aged 12 and older had tried cocaine at least once in their lifetimes, representing 14.3% of the population aged 12 and older.
